The Association was formed after a consultation from The Centre for Market Reform of Education (CMRE), an education think-tank and policy unit that seeks to promote market-led solutions to issues in education. TTA was launched on 8th October 2013 and is based in London. It was established to encourage professional standards in the private tutoring industry in the UK and has three main purposes:
To create a community where members of the tutoring profession can exchange knowledge, experience and provide mutual support.
To provide reassurance to parents that the tutor they have selected has committed to professional standards, presents no known risk to their child (DBS checked) and has proven competence.
To provide a unified and coherent voice for the tutoring profession so that it can engage with other stakeholders, and create mutually beneficial partnerships within the field of education.
One of the requirements for the membership of Southern Tutors® was adherence to the code of professional practice
set out by the TTA. TTA examined our key procedures; enrolling students, tutor registration, tutor and student matching, customer service and complaints, and offered Southern Tutors a corporate membership.
